No! Opening credit cards can actually be very beneficial to your credit score. What does hurt your credit score? Running a balance and missing payments. Your credit utilization ratio has a big impact as well. I open multiple credit cards every year and my credit sits right around 800+.

When you open up a credit card and hit a sign up bonus, you end up with points and miles that are hopefully worth hundreds-if not a few thousand dollars- in travel. So, the first year the annual fee should always be worth it. At the one year mark, I always assess whether the card has a permanent spot in my strategy. If not, I cancel it, downgrade it to a no fee option, or ask for a retention bonus.

The rule of thumb is no more than every 90 days. Some people do it more, some people do it less. But this is the general consensus.
